Original Max Ernst Exhibition Poster 1976 – Estampes Originales

Artist: Max Ernst Exhibition: Estampes Originales – Livres Illustrés (1949–1973) Gallery: Galerie Gérald Cramer Dates: 26 January – 15 March 1976 City: Geneva, Switzerland ⸻ Description Original exhibition poster featuring the work of Surrealist master Max Ernst. This poster was produced for the exhibition “Estampes Originales – Livres Illustrés (1949–1973)” held at Galerie Gérald Cramer in Geneva in 1976. The exhibition focused on Ernst’s original prints and illustrated books, an important part of his artistic practice. Max Ernst was a key figure in both the Dada and Surrealist movements, known for developing experimental techniques such as frottage and decalcomania. His imagery often blends dreamlike symbolism, hybrid creatures, and mysterious forms drawn from the subconscious. The illustration reproduced on this poster reflects Ernst’s fascination with surreal hybrid figures and mythological creatures — recurring motifs throughout his prints and graphic works. Exhibition posters like this were originally printed as promotional materials for galleries and museums. Today they are increasingly collected as historical artifacts documenting important exhibitions and artists of the 20th century. With its elegant typography and surreal imagery, this poster makes a striking piece of wall art for collectors of modern and surrealist art. ⸻ Poster Details Artist: Max Ernst Exhibition title: Estampes Originales – Livres Illustrés (1949–1973) Gallery: Galerie Gérald Cramer City: Geneva, Switzerland Year printed: 1976 Poster type: Original exhibition poster Approximate size: 24 × 17 inches Movement: Surrealism ⸻ Condition Vintage poster in good condition.
